Only-begotten Son and Logos of God, being immortal, You condescended for our salvation to take flesh from the holy Theotokos and ever-virgin Mary and, without change, became man. Magnificent are the accomplishments of faith! The holy Martyr Theodore greatly rejoiced as he stood in the fountain of fire as if beside the still waters. He was consumed by fire and offered like sweet bread to the Trinity. At his entreaties, O Christ God, save our souls. [SD]

Soporta las fatigas conmigo, como un buen soldado de Cristo Jesús. Nadie que se dedica a la milicia se enreda en los negocios de la vida, si quiere complacer al que le ha alistado. Y lo mismo el atleta, que no recibe la corona si no ha competido según el reglamento. Y el labrador que trabaja es el primero que tiene derecho a percibir los frutos. Entiende lo que quiero decirte; seguro que el Señor te hará comprender todo. Acuérdate de Jesús Cristo, resucitado de entre los muertos, descendiente de David, según mi Evangelio. Por él estoy sufriendo en la cárcel, como si fuera un malhechor; pero la palabra de Dios no está encadenada. Timothy, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus, and what you have heard from me before many witnesses entrust to faithful men who will be able to teach others also. Share in suffering as a good soldier of Christ Jesus. No soldier on service gets entangled in civilian pursuits, since his aim is to satisfy the one who enlisted him. An athlete is not crowned unless he competes according to the rules. It is the hard-working farmer who ought to have the first share of the crops. Think over what I say, for the Lord will grant you understanding in everything. Remember Jesus Christ, risen from the dead, descended from David, as preached in my gospel, the gospel for which I am suffering and wearing fetters like a criminal. But the word of God is not fettered. Therefore I endure everything for the sake of the elect, that they also may obtain salvation in Christ Jesus with its eternal glory. [RSV]

Dijo el Señor a sus discípulos: «Guárdense de los escribas, que gustan pasear con ropas amplias y quieren ser saludados en las plazas, ocupar los primeros asientos en las sinagogas y los primeros puestos en los banquetes; y que devoran la hacienda de las viudas so capa de largas oraciones. Ésos tendrán una sentencia más rigurosa.» Alzando la mirada, vio a unos ricos que echaban sus donativos en el arca del Tesoro; vio también a una viuda pobre, que echaba allí dos moneditas. Dijo entonces: «De verdad les digo que esta viuda pobre ha echado más que nadie. Porque todos éstos han echado como donativo de lo que les sobra; ésta en cambio ha echado de lo que necesita, de todo lo que tiene para vivir.» [BJ-SAOGM]
The Lord said to his disciples, “Beware of the scribes, who like to go about in long robes, and love salutations in the market places and the best seats in the synagogues and the places of honor at feasts, who devour widows’ houses and for a pretense make long prayers. A la más honorable que los querubines y más gloriosa, incomparablemente que los serafines; a ti, la que incorruptamente, diste a luz al Verbo de Dios, a la verdaderamente Theotokos, te exaltamos.
It is truly right to bless you, Theotokos, ever blessed, most pure, and Mother of our God. More honorable than the Cherubim, and beyond compare more glorious than the Seraphim, without corruption you gave birth to God the Logos. We magnify you, the true Theotokos.
