Only-begotten Son and Logos of God, being immortal, You condescended for our salvation to take flesh from the holy Theotokos and ever-virgin Mary and, without change, became man. Christ, our God, You were crucified and conquered death by death. Being one of the Holy Trinity, glorified with the Father and the Holy Spirit: Save us.

La memoria del justo es digna de la alabanza, pero te es suficiente el testimonio del Señor, oh Precursor. Porque, en verdad, te manifestaste más honorable que los profetas, pues has sido merecedor de bautizar en las corrientes del Jordán a Aquél que había sido anunciado. Por tanto, después de haber luchado gozosamente por la Verdad, anunciaste a aquellos que moraban en el Hades, a Dios que se manifiesta en la carne y borra el pecado del mundo, concediéndonos la gran misericordia. The memory of the just is observed with hymns of praise; for you suffices the testimony of the Lord, O Forerunner. You have proved to be truly more ven’rable than the Prophets, since you were granted to baptize in the river the One whom they proclaimed. Therefore, when for the truth you had contested, rejoicing, to those in Hades you preached the Gospel, that God was manifested in the flesh, and takes away the sin of the world, and grants to us the great mercy. Hermanos, Dios es testigo de cuánto los quiero a todos, con el afecto entrañable de Cristo Jesús. Y lo que pido en mi oración es que su amor crezca cada vez más en conocimiento y todo tipo de experiencia, para que puedan aquilatar lo mejor y lleguen limpios y sin tropiezo al Día de Cristo, cargados de los buenos frutos que vienen de Jesús Cristo, para gloria y alabanza de Dios. Quiero que sepan, hermanos, que lo que me ha sucedido ha contribuido más bien al progreso del Evangelio, pues se ha hecho público, en todo el Pretorio y entre todos los demás, que me encuentro encarcelado por Cristo. Así, la mayor parte de los hermanos, alentados en el Señor por mis cadenas, tienen mayor intrepidez en anunciar sin temor la palabra. [BJ-SAOGM]

Brethren, God is my witness, how I yearn for you all with the affection of Christ Jesus. And it is my prayer that your love may abound more and more, with knowledge and all discernment, so that you may approve what is excellent, and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, filled with the fruits of righteousness which come through Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God. I want you to know, brethren, that what has happened to me has really served to advance the gospel, so that it has become known throughout the whole praetorium and to all the rest that my imprisonment is for Christ; and most of the brethren have been made confident in the Lord because of my imprisonment, and are much more bold to speak the word without fear. Dijo el Señor: «Tu ojo es la lámpara de tu cuerpo. Cuando tu ojo está sano, todo tu cuerpo estará iluminado; pero cuando está malo, también tu cuerpo estará a oscuras. Mira, pues, que la luz que hay en ti no sea oscuridad. Pues si tu cuerpo está enteramente iluminado, sin parte alguna oscura, estará tan enteramente iluminado como cuando la lámpara te ilumina con su resplandor.» Cuando terminó de hablar, un fariseo le rogó que fuera a comer con él. Jesús entró y se puso a la mesa. El fariseo se quedó admirado al observar que había omitido las abluciones antes de comer. Pero el Señor le dijo: «¡Bien! Ustedes, los fariseos, purifican por fuera la copa y el plato, mientras por dentro están llenos de rapiña y maldad. ¡Insensatos! El que hizo el exterior, ¿no hizo también el interior? Den más bien en limosna lo que tienen y entonces todo será puro para ustedes.» [BJ-SAOGM]

The Lord said, “Your eye is the lamp of your body; when your eye is sound, your whole body is full of light; but when it is not sound, your body is full of darkness. Therefore be careful lest the light in you be darkness. If then your whole body is full of light, having no part dark, it will be wholly bright, as when a lamp with its rays gives you light.” While he was speaking, a Pharisee asked him to dine with him; so he went in and sat at table. The Pharisee was astonished to see that he did not first wash before dinner. And the Lord said to him, “Now you Pharisees cleanse the outside of the cup and of the dish, but inside you are full of extortion and wickedness. You fools! Did not he who made the outside make the inside also? But give for alms those things which are within and behold, everything is clean for you.” [RSV]

Εἶπεν ὁ Κύριος· ὁ λύχνος τοῦ σώματός ἐστιν ὁ ὀφθαλμός· ὅταν οὖν ὁ ὀφθαλμός σου ἁπλοῦς ᾖ, καὶ ὅλον τὸ σῶμά σου φωτεινόν ἐστιν· ἐπὰν δὲ πονηρὸς ᾖ, καὶ τὸ σῶμά σου σκοτεινόν. σκόπει οὖν μὴ τὸ φῶς τὸ ἐν σοὶ σκότος ἐστίν. εἰ οὖν τὸ σῶμά σου ὅλον φωτεινόν, μὴ ἔχον τι μέρος σκοτεινόν, ἔσται φωτεινὸν ὅλον ὡς ὅταν ὁ λύχνος τῇ ἀστραπῇ φωτίζῃ σε. Ἐν δὲ τῷ λαλῆσαι αὐτὸν ταῦτα ἠρώτα αὐτὸν Φαρισαῖός τις ὅπως ἀριστήσῃ παρ᾿ αὐτῷ· εἰσελθὼν δὲ ἀνέπεσεν. ὁ δὲ Φαρισαῖος ἰδὼν ἐθαύμασεν ὅτι οὐ πρῶτον ἐβαπτίσθη πρὸ τοῦ ἀρίστου. εἶπε δὲ ὁ Κύριος πρὸς αὐτόν· νῦν ὑμεῖς οἱ Φαρισαῖοι τὸ ἔξωθεν τοῦ ποτηρίου καὶ τοῦ πίνακος καθαρίζετε, τὸ δὲ ἔσωθεν ὑμῶν γέμει ἁρπαγῆς καὶ πονηρίας. ἄφρονες! οὐχ ὁ ποιήσας τὸ ἔξωθεν καὶ τὸ ἔσωθεν ἐποίησε; πλὴν τὰ ἐνόντα δότε ἐλεημοσύνην, καὶ ἰδοὺ ἅπαντα καθαρὰ ὑμῖν ἔσται.

Digno es, en verdad, aclamarte a ti, Teotocos, la siempre bienaventurada e inmaculada, y Madre de nuestro Dios. A la más honorable que los querubines y más gloriosa, incomparablemente que los serafines; a ti, la que incorruptamente, diste a luz al Verbo de Dios, a la verdaderamente Teotocos, te exaltamos.

It is truly right to bless you, Theotokos, ever blessed, most pure, and Mother of our God. More honorable than the Cherubim, and beyond compare more glorious than the Seraphim, without corruption you gave birth to God the Logos. We magnify you, the true Theotokos.
