Hermanos, les hago saber que el Evangelio anunciado por mí no es de orden humano, pues yo no lo recibí ni aprendí de hombre alguno, sino por revelación de Jesús Cristo. Seguramente han oído hablar de mi conducta anterior en el judaísmo, cuán encarnizadamente perseguía a la iglesia de Dios para destruirla, y cómo superaba en el judaísmo a muchos compatriotas de mi generación, aventajándoles en el celo por las tradiciones de mis antepasados. Mas, cuando Aquel que me separó desde el seno de mi madre y me llamó por su gracia, tuvo a bien revelar en mí a su Hijo, para que lo anunciase entre los gentiles, al punto, sin pedir consejo a hombre alguno, ni subir a Jerusalén donde los apóstoles anteriores a mí, me fui a Arabia, de donde volví a Damasco. Brethren, I would have you know that the gospel which was preached by me is not according to man. For I did not receive it from man, nor was I taught it, but it came through a revelation of Jesus Christ. For you have heard of my former life in Judaism, how I persecuted the church of God violently and tried to destroy it; and I advanced in Judaism beyond many of my own age among my people, so extremely zealous was I for the traditions of my fathers. But when God who had set me apart before I was born, and had called me through his grace, was pleased to reveal his Son in me, in order that I might preach him among the Gentiles, I did not confer with flesh and blood, nor did I go up to Jerusalem to those who were apostles before me, but I went away into Arabia; and again I returned to Damascus. En aquel tiempo, Jesús había venido a su patria y les enseñaba en su sinagoga, de tal manera que se preguntaban maravillados: «¿De dónde le viene a éste esa sabiduría y esos milagros? ¿No es éste el hijo del carpintero? ¿No se llama su madre María, y sus hermanos Santiago, José, Simón y Judas? ¿Y no están todas sus hermanas entre nosotros? Entonces, ¿de dónde le viene todo esto?» Y se escandalizaban a causa de él. Mas Jesús les dijo: «Un profeta sólo carece de prestigio en su patria y entre los suyos.» Y no hizo allí muchos milagros, a causa de su falta de fe. [BJ-SAOGM]

At that time, Jesus came to his own country, and taught the crowds in their synagogue so that they were astonished, and said, “Where did this man get this wisdom and these mighty works? Where then did this man get all this?” And they took offense at him. Digno es, en verdad, aclamarte a ti, Teotocos, la siempre bienaventurada e inmaculada, y Madre de nuestro Dios. A la más honorable que los querubines y más gloriosa, incomparablemente que los serafines; a ti, la que incorruptamente, diste a luz al Verbo de Dios, a la verdaderamente Teotocos, te exaltamos.

It is truly right to bless you, Theotokos, ever blessed, most pure, and Mother of our God. More honorable than the Cherubim, and beyond compare more glorious than the Seraphim, without corruption you gave birth to God the Logos. We magnify you, the true Theotokos.
