Hermanos, a mí, el menor de todos los santos, me fue concedida la gracia de anunciar a los gentiles la insondable riqueza de Cristo, y esclarecer cómo se ha dispensado el misterio escondido desde siglos en Dios, creador del universo, para que la multiforme sabiduría de Dios se manifieste ahora a los principados y a las potestades en los cielos, mediante la Iglesia. De este modo, Dios ha realizado su designio eterno en Cristo Jesús, Señor nuestro, quien, mediante la fe en él, nos da valor para llegarnos confiadamente a Dios. Por eso les ruego que no se desanimen por las tribulaciones que por ustedes padezco, pues ellas son la gloria de ustedes. Así que doblo mis rodillas ante el Padre, de quien toma nombre toda familia en el cielo y en la tierra, para que, en virtud de su gloriosa riqueza, les conceda fortaleza interior mediante la acción de su Espíritu, y haga que Cristo habite por la fe en sus corazones. Y que de este modo, arraigados y cimentados en el amor, puedan comprender con todos los santos la anchura y la longitud, la altura y la profundidad, y conozcan el amor de Cristo, que excede a todo conocimiento. Y que así se llenen de toda la plenitud de Dios. A Aquel que tiene poder para realizar todas las cosas incomparablemente mejor de lo que nosotros podemos pedir o pensar conforme a nuestra capacidad, a él la gloria en la Iglesia y en Cristo Jesús por todas las generaciones y todos los tiempos. Brethren, to me, though I am the very least of all the saints, this grace was given, to preach to the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ, and to make all men see what is the plan of the mystery hidden for ages in God who created all things; that through the church the manifold wisdom of God might now be made known to the principalities and powers in the heavenly places. This was according to the eternal purpose which he has realized in Christ Jesus our Lord, in whom we have boldness and confidence of access through our faith in him. So l ask you not to lose heart over what I am suffering for you, which is your glory. For this reason I bow my knees before the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with might through his Spirit in the inner man, and that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith, that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have power to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with the fullness of God. Now to him who by the power at work within us is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, to him be glory in the church in Christ Jesus to all generations, for ever and ever. En aquel tiempo, los soldados llegaron a un lugar llamado Gólgota, esto es, «Calvario», y le dieron a beber vino mezclado con hiel; pero él, después de probarlo, no quiso beberlo. Una vez que le crucificaron, se repartieron sus vestidos, echando a suertes. Y se quedaron sentados allí para custodiarle. Sobre su cabeza pusieron, por escrito, la causa de su condena: «Este es Jesús, el Rey de los judíos.» Y al mismo tiempo que a él crucifican a dos salteadores, uno a la derecha y otro a la izquierda. Los que pasaban por allí le insultaban, meneando la cabeza y diciendo: «Tú que destruyes el Santuario y en tres días lo levantas, ¡sálvate a ti mismo, si eres Hijo de Dios, y baja de la cruz!» Igualmente los sumos sacerdotes junto con los escribas y los ancianos se burlaban de él diciendo: «A otros salvó y a sí mismo no puede salvarse. Rey de Israel es: que baje ahora de la cruz, y creeremos en él. Ha puesto su confianza en Dios; que le salve ahora, si es que de verdad le quiere; ya que dijo: “Soy Hijo de Dios.”» De la misma manera le injuriaban también los salteadores crucificados con él. Desde la hora sexta hubo oscuridad sobre toda la tierra hasta la hora nona. Y alrededor de la hora nona clamó Jesús con fuerte voz: = «¡Elí, Elí! ¿lemá sabactaní?», esto es: «¡Dios mío, Dios mío! ¿por qué me has abandonado?» Al oírlo algunos de los que estaban allí decían: «A Elías llama éste.» Y enseguida uno de ellos fue corriendo a tomar una esponja, la empapó en vinagre y, sujetándola a una caña, le ofrecía de beber. Pero los otros dijeron: «Deja, vamos a ver si viene Elías a salvarle.» Pero Jesús, dando de nuevo un fuerte grito, exhaló el espíritu. En esto, el velo del Santuario se rasgó en dos, de arriba abajo; tembló la tierra y las rocas se hendieron. Se abrieron los sepulcros, y muchos cuerpos de santos difuntos resucitaron. Y, saliendo de los sepulcros después de la resurrección de él, entraron en la Ciudad Santa y se aparecieron a muchos. Por su parte, el centurión y los que con él estaban guardando a Jesús, al ver el terremoto y lo que pasaba, se llenaron de miedo y dijeron: «Verdaderamente éste era Hijo de Dios.» [BJ-SAOGM]

At that time, when the soldiers came to a place called Golgotha (which means the place of a skull), they offered Jesus wine to drink, mingled with gall; but when he tasted it, he would not drink it. And when they had crucified him, they divided his garments among them by casting lots; then they sat down and kept watch over him there. And over his head they put the charge against him, which read, “This is Jesus the King of the Jews.” Then two robbers were crucified with him, one on the right and one on the left. And those who passed by derided him, wagging their heads and saying, “You who would destroy the temple and build it in three days, save yourself! If you are the Son of God, come down from the cross.” So also the chief priests, with the scribes and elders, mocked him, saying, “He saved others; he cannot save himself. He is the King of Israel; let him come down now from the cross, and we will believe in him. He trusts in God; let God deliver him now, if he desires him; for he said, ‘I am the Son of God.’” And the robbers who were crucified with him also reviled him in the same way. Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the earth until the ninth hour. And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, “Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?” that is, “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?” And some of the bystanders hearing it said, “This man is calling Elijah.” And one of them at once ran and took a sponge, filled it with vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave it to him to drink. But the others said, “Wait, let us see whether Elijah will come to save him.” And Jesus cried again with a loud voice and yielded up his spirit. And behold, the curtain of the temple was torn in two, from top to bottom; and the earth shook, and the rocks were split; the tombs also were opened, and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised, and coming out of the tombs after his resurrection they went into the holy city and appeared to many. When the centurion and those who were with him, keeping watch over Jesus, saw the earthquake and what took place, they were filled with awe, and said, “Truly this was the Son of God!” [RSV]

Τότε σταυροῦνται σὺν αὐτῷ δύο λῃσταί, εἷς ἐκ δεξιῶν καὶ εἷς ἐξ εὐωνύμων. Ὁ δὲ ἑκατόνταρχος καὶ οἱ μετ᾿ αὐτοῦ τηροῦντες τὸν Ἰησοῦν, ἰδόντες τὸν σεισμὸν καὶ τὰ γενόμενα ἐφοβήθησαν σφόδρα λέγοντες· ἀληθῶς Θεοῦ υἱὸς ἦν οὗτος.
