Hermanos, «Todo es lícito», pero no todo conviene. «Todo es lícito», pero no todo ayuda a construir la comunidad. Que nadie procure su propio interés, sino el de los demás. Coman todo lo que se vende en el mercado, sin plantearse cuestiones de conciencia, pues ‘del Señor es la tierra y todo cuanto contiene’. Si aceptan la invitación de un infiel, coman todo lo que les ofrezca, sin plantearse cuestiones de conciencia. Pero si alguien les dice: «Esto ha sido ofrecido en sacrificio», no lo coman, en atención al que lo advirtió y por motivos de conciencia; pues ‘del Señor es la tierra y todo cuanto contiene’. Brethren, “all things are permitted for me,” but not all things are helpful. “All things are permitted for me,” but not all things build up. Let no one seek his own good, but the good of his neighbor. Eat whatever is sold in the meat market without raising any question on the ground of conscience. For “the earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it.” If one of the unbelievers invites you to dinner and you are disposed to go, eat whatever is set before you without raising any question on the ground of conscience. (But if some one says to you, “This has been offered in sacrifice,” then out of consideration for the man who informed you, and for conscience’ sake do not eat it.) For “the earth is the Lord’s, and everything in it.” [RSV]

Πᾶν τὸ ἐν μακέλλῳ πωλούμενον ἐσθίετε μηδὲν ἀνακρίνοντες διὰ τὴν συνείδησιν· τοῦ γὰρ Κυρίου ἡ γῆ καὶ τὸ πλήρωμα αὐτῆς. εἰ δέ τις καλεῖ ὑμᾶς τῶν ἀπίστων καὶ θέλετε πορεύεσθαι, πᾶν τὸ παρατιθέμενον ὑμῖν ἐσθίετε μηδὲν ἀνακρίνοντες διὰ τὴν συνείδησιν. ἐὰν δέ τις ὑμῖν εἴπῃ, τοῦτο εἰδωλόθυτόν ἐστι, μὴ ἐσθίετε δι᾿ ἐκεῖνον τὸν μηνύσαντα καὶ τὴν συνείδησιν· τοῦ γὰρ Κυρίου ἡ γῆ καὶ τὸ πλήρωμα αὐτῆς.

En aquel tiempo, Jesús estaba cruzando por unos sembrados, y sus discípulos arrancaban espigas, las desgranaban con las manos y se las comían. Algunos de los fariseos dijeron: «¿Por qué hacen lo que no es lícito en sábado?» Jesús les respondió: «¿Ni siquiera han leído lo que hizo David, cuando sintieron hambre él y los que lo acompañaban, cómo entró en la Casa de Dios y, tomando los panes de la presencia, que no es lícito comer sino sólo a los sacerdotes, comió él y dio a los que lo acompañaban?» Y añadió: «El Hijo del hombre es señor del sábado.» Otro sábado entró Jesús en la sinagoga y se puso a enseñar. Había allí casualmente un hombre que tenía la mano derecha seca. Los escribas y fariseos estaban al acecho por si curaba en sábado, para encontrar de qué acusarle. Pero él, sabiendo lo que pensaban, dijo al hombre que tenía la mano seca: «Levántate y ponte ahí en medio.» Él se levantó y se puso allí. Entonces Jesús les dijo: «Quiero preguntarles si en sábado es lícito hacer el bien en vez de hacer el mal, salvar una vida en vez de destruirla.» Entonces, mirándolos a todos, le dijo: «Extiende tu mano.» Él lo hizo, y quedó restablecida su mano. At that time, Jesus was going through the grainfields, his disciples plucked and ate some heads of grain, rubbing them in their hands. But some of the Pharisees said, “Why are you doing what is not lawful to do on the sabbath?” And Jesus answered, “Have you not read what David did when he was hungry, he and those who were with him: how he entered the house of God, and took and ate the bread of the Presence, which it is not lawful for any but the priests to eat, and also gave it to those with him?” And he said to them, “The Son of man is lord of the sabbath.” On another sabbath, when he entered the synagogue and taught, a man was there whose right hand was withered. And the scribes and the Pharisees watched him, to see whether he would heal on the sabbath, so that they might find an accusation against him. But he knew their thoughts, and he said to the man who had the withered hand, “Come and stand here.” And he rose and stood there. And Jesus said to them, “I ask you, is it lawful on the sabbath to do good or to do harm, to save life or to destroy it?” And he looked around on them all, and said to him, “Stretch out your hand.” And he did so, and his hand was restored. Ἐγένετο δὲ καὶ ἐν ἑτέρῳ σαββάτῳ εἰσελθεῖν αὐτὸν εἰς τὴν συναγωγὴν καὶ διδάσκειν· καὶ ἦν ἐκεῖ ἄνθρωπος, καὶ ἡ χεὶρ αὐτοῦ ἡ δεξιὰ ἦν ξηρά. παρετήρουν δὲ οἱ γραμματεῖς καὶ οἱ Φαρισαῖοι εἰ ἐν τῷ σαββάτῳ θεραπεύσει, ἵνα εὕρωσι κατηγορίαν αὐτοῦ. αὐτὸς δὲ ᾔδει τοὺς διαλογισμοὺς αὐτῶν, καὶ εἶπε τῷ ἀνθρώπῳ τῷ ξηρὰν ἔχοντι τὴν χεῖρα· ἔγειρε καὶ στῆθι εἰς τὸ μέσον. ὁ δὲ ἀναστὰς ἔστη. εἶπεν οὖν ὁ Ἰησοῦς πρὸς αὐτούς· ἐπερωτήσω ὑμᾶς τί ἔξεστι τοῖς σάββασιν, ἀγαθοποιῆσαι ἢ κακοποιῆσαι, ψυχὴν σῶσαι ἢ ἀποκτεῖναι; καὶ περιβλεψάμενος πάντας αὐτοὺς εἶπεν αὐτῷ· ἔκτεινον τὴν χεῖρά σου. ὁ δὲ ἐποίησε, καὶ ἀποκατεστάθη ἡ χεὶρ αὐτοῦ ὡς ἡ ἄλλη.
