Hermanos, a nosotros, los apóstoles, Dios nos ha asignado el último lugar, como condenados a muerte, puestos a modo de espectáculo para el mundo, los ángeles y los seres humanos. Nosotros pasamos por locos a causa de Cristo; ustedes, por sabios en Cristo. Nosotros somos débiles; ustedes, fuertes. Ustedes, estimados; nosotros, despreciados. Hasta ahora venimos pasando hambre, sed y desnudez. Somos abofeteados, y andamos de aquí para allá. Nos fatigamos trabajando manualmente. Si nos insultan, bendecimos; si nos persiguen, lo soportamos; si nos difaman, respondemos con bondad. Hasta ahora venimos siendo la basura del mundo y el desecho de todos. No les escribo esto para avergonzarlos, sino más bien para amonestarlos como a hijos míos queridos. Pues, aunque hayan tenido diez mil pedagogos en Cristo, no tienen muchos padres. He sido yo quien, por el Evangelio, los engendré en Cristo Jesús. Les ruego, pues, que sean mis imitadores. [BJ-SAOGM]
Brethren, God has exhibited us apostles as last of all, like men sentenced to death; because we have become a spectacle to the world, to angels and to men. We are fools for Christ’s sake, but you are wise in Christ. We are weak, but you are strong. You are held in honor, but we in disrepute. To the present hour we hunger and thirst, we are ill-clad and buffeted and homeless, and we labor, working with our own hands. When reviled, we bless; when persecuted, we endure; when slandered, we try to conciliate; we have become, and are now, as the refuse of the world, the off-scouring of all things. I do not write this to make you ashamed, but to admonish you as my beloved children. For though you have countless guides in Christ, you do not have many fathers. For I became your father in Christ Jesus through the gospel. I urge you, then, be imitators of me. [RSV]
Ἀδελφοί, ὁ Θεὸς ἡμᾶς τοὺς ἀποστόλους ἐσχάτους ἀπέδειξεν, ὡς ἐπιθανατίους, ὅτι θέατρον ἐγενήθημεν τῷ κόσμῳ, καὶ ἀγγέλοις καὶ ἀνθρώποις. ἡμεῖς μωροὶ διὰ Χριστόν, ὑμεῖς δὲ φρόνιμοι ἐν Χριστῷ· ἡμεῖς ἀσθενεῖς, ὑμεῖς δὲ ἰσχυροί· ὑμεῖς ἔνδοξοι, ἡμεῖς δὲ ἄτιμοι. ἄχρι τῆς ἄρτι ὥρας καὶ πεινῶμεν καὶ διψῶμεν καὶ γυμνητεύομεν καὶ κολαφιζόμεθα καὶ ἀστατοῦμεν καὶ κοπιῶμεν ἐργαζόμενοι ταῖς ἰδίαις χερσί· λοιδορούμενοι εὐλογοῦμεν, διωκόμενοι ἀνεχόμεθα, βλασφημούμενοι παρακαλοῦμεν· ὡς περικαθάρματα τοῦ κόσμου ἐγενήθημεν, πάντων περίψημα ἕως ἄρτι. Οὐκ ἐντρέπων ὑμᾶς γράφω ταῦτα, ἀλλ᾿ ὡς τέκνα μου ἀγαπητὰ νουθετῶ. ἐὰν γὰρ μυρίους παιδαγωγοὺς ἔχητε ἐν Χριστῷ, ἀλλ᾿ οὐ πολλοὺς πατέρας· ἐν γὰρ Χριστῷ Ἰησοῦ διὰ τοῦ εὐαγγελίου ἐγὼ ὑμᾶς ἐγέννησα. παρακαλῶ οὖν ὑμᾶς, μιμηταί μου γίνεσθε.

En aquel tiempo, Jesús, al ver tanta gente, sintió compasión de ellos, porque estaban vejados y abatidos, como ovejas que no tienen pastor. Entonces dijo a sus discípulos: «La mies es mucha y los obreros poco. Rueguen, pues, al Dueño de la mies que envíe obreros a su mies.» Jesús llamó a sus doce discípulos y les dio poder para expulsar a los espíritus inmundos y para curar toda enfermedad y toda dolencia. Los nombres de los doce Apóstoles son éstos: primero Simón, llamado Pedro, y su hermano Andrés; Santiago el de Zebedeo y su hermano Juan; Felipe y Bartolomé; Tomás y Mateo el publicano; Santiago el de Alfeo y Tadeo; Simón el Cananeo y Judas el Iscariote, el que le entregó. Jesús envió a estos doce, después de darles las siguientes instrucciones: «No tomen las rutas de los paganos ni entren en poblados de samaritanos; dirígense más bien a las ovejas perdidas de la casa de Israel. Vayan y proclamen que el Reino de los Cielos está cerca. Curen enfermos, resuciten muertos, purifiquen leprosos, expulsen demonios. Gratis lo recibieron; denlo gratis.» [BJ-SAOGM]
At that time, when Jesus saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; pray therefore the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.” And he called to him his twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal every disease and every infirmity. The names of the twelve apostles are these: first, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother; James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother; Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas and Matthew the tax collector; James the son of Alphaeus, and Lebbaeus called Thaddaeus; Simon the Cananaean, and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed him. These twelve Jesus sent out, charging them, “Go nowhere among the Gentiles, and enter no town of the Samaritans, but go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. And preach as you go, saying, ‘The kingdom of heaven is at hand.’ Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse lepers, cast out demons. You received without paying, give without pay.” [RSV]

Καὶ προσκαλεσάμενος τοὺς δώδεκα μαθητὰς αὐτοῦ ἔδωκεν αὐτοῖς ἐξουσίαν πνευμάτων ἀκαθάρτων ὥστε ἐκβάλλειν αὐτὰ καὶ θεραπεύειν πᾶσαν νόσον καὶ πᾶσαν μαλακίαν. Τούτους τοὺς δώδεκα ἀπέστειλεν ὁ Ἰησοῦς παραγγείλας αὐτοῖς λέγων· εἰς ὁδὸν ἐθνῶν μὴ ἀπέλθητε καὶ εἰς πόλιν Σαμαρειτῶν μὴ εἰσέλθητε· πορεύεσθε δὲ μᾶλλον πρὸς τὰ πρόβατα τὰ ἀπολωλότα οἴκου Ἰσραήλ. πορευόμενοι δὲ κηρύσσετε λέγοντες ὅτι ἤγγικεν ἡ βασιλεία τῶν οὐρανῶν. ἀσθενοῦντας θεραπεύετε, λεπροὺς καθαρίζετε, νεκροὺς ἐγείρετε, δαιμόνια ἐκβάλλετε· δωρεὰν ἐλάβετε, δωρεὰν δότε.
