Hermanos, por esto mismo les he enviado a Timoteo, hijo mío querido y creyente fiel. Él les recordará mis normas de conducta cristiana, conforme enseño en todas las iglesias que visito. Algunos ya lo están celebrando, pensando que no voy a ir donde ustedes. Pero, si Dios quiere, iré pronto a visitarlos. Entonces conoceré no la palabrería de esos orgullosos, sino su poder, pues el Reino de Dios no consiste en mera palabrería, sino en poder. ¿Qué prefieren, que vaya donde ustedes a imponer disciplina o con amor y espíritu de mansedumbre? Por todas partes se oye hablar de una inmoralidad que se practica entre ustedes, y que no se da ni entre los gentiles. Se dice que uno de ustedes vive con la mujer de su padre. Y ustedes andan tan ufanos, en lugar de hacer duelo para que fuera expulsado de entre ustedes el autor de semejante acción. Pues bien, yo, que estoy corporalmente ausente, pero presente en espíritu, he emitido ya mi juicio, como si estuviera allí: que en nombre del Señor Jesús, reunidos ustedes y mi espíritu, con el poder de Jesús Señor nuestro, sea entregado ese individuo a Satanás para dar muerte a su sensualidad, a fin de que el espíritu se salve en el Día del Señor. Brethren, therefore I sent to you Timothy, my beloved and faithful child in Christ, as I teach them everywhere in every church. Some are arrogant, as though I were not coming to you. But I will come to you soon, if the Lord wills, and I will find out not the talk of these arrogant people but their power. For the kingdom of God does not consist in talk but in power. What do you wish? Shall I come to you with a rod, or with love in a spirit of gentleness? It is actually reported that there is immorality among you, and of a kind that is not found even among pagans; for a man is living with his father’s wife. And you are arrogant! Ought you not rather to mourn? Let him who has done this be removed from among you. For though absent in body I am present in spirit, and as if present, I have already pronounced judgment in the name of the Lord Jesus on the man who has done such a thing. When you are assembled, and my spirit is present, with the power of our Lord Jesus, you are to deliver this man to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that his spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus. Ὡς μὴ ἐρχομένου δέ μου πρὸς ὑμᾶς ἐφυσιώθησάν τινες· ἐλεύσομαι δὲ ταχέως πρὸς ὑμᾶς, ἐὰν ὁ Κύριος θελήσῃ, καὶ γνώσομαι οὐ τὸν λόγον τῶν πεφυσιωμένων, ἀλλὰ τὴν δύναμιν· οὐ γὰρ ἐν λόγῳ ἡ βασιλεία τοῦ Θεοῦ, ἀλλ᾿ ἐν δυνάμει. τί θέλετε; ἐν ῥάβδῳ ἔλθω πρὸς ὑμᾶς, ἢ ἐν ἀγάπῃ πνεύματί τε πρᾳότητος; Ὅλως ἀκούεται ἐν ὑμῖν πορνεία, καὶ τοιαύτη πορνεία, ἥτις οὐδὲ ἐν τοῖς ἔθνεσιν ὀνομάζεται, ὥστε γυναῖκά τινα τοῦ πατρὸς ἔχειν. καὶ ὑμεῖς πεφυσιωμένοι ἐστέ, καὶ οὐχὶ μᾶλλον ἐπενθήσατε, ἵνα ἐξαρθῇ ἐκ μέσου ὑμῶν ὁ τὸ ἔργον τοῦτο ποιήσας! ἐγὼ μὲν γὰρ ὡς ἀπὼν τῷ σώματι, παρὼν δὲ τῷ πνεύματι, ἤδη κέκρικα ὡς παρὼν τὸν οὕτω τοῦτο κατεργασάμενον, ἐν τῷ ὀνόματι τοῦ Κυρίου ἡμῶν Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ συναχθέντων ὑμῶν καὶ τοῦ ἐμοῦ πνεύματος σὺν τῇ δυνάμει τοῦ Κυρίου ἡμῶν Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ παραδοῦναι τὸν τοιοῦτον τῷ σατανᾷ εἰς ὄλεθρον τῆς σαρκός, ἵνα τὸ πνεῦμα σωθῇ ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ τοῦ Κυρίου Ἰησοῦ.

En aquel tiempo, Jesús salió y vio a un publicano llamado Leví, sentado en el despacho de impuestos, y le dijo: «Sígueme.» Él, dejándolo todo, se levantó y le siguió. Leví le ofreció en su casa un gran banquete. Les acompañaban a la mesa un gran número de publicanos, aparte de otras personas. Los fariseos y sus escribas decían refunfuñando a los discípulos: «¿Por qué comen y beben con los publicanos y pecadores?» Les respondió Jesús: «No necesitan médico los que están sanos, sino los que están mal. No he venido a llamar a conversión a justos, sino a pecadores.» [BJ-SAOGM]
At that time, Jesus passed on and saw a tax collector, named Levi, sitting at the tax office; and he said to him, “Follow me.” And he left everything, and rose and followed him. And Levi made him a great feast in his house; and there was a large company of tax collectors and others sitting at table with them. And the Pharisees and their scribes murmured against his disciples, saying, “Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?” And Jesus answered them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick; I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.” [RSV]
Τῷ καιρῷ ἐκείνῳ, παράγων ὁ Ἰησοῦς ἐθεάσατο τελώνην ὀνόματι Λευΐν, καθήμενον ἐπὶ τὸ τελώνιον, καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ· ἀκολούθει μοι. καὶ καταλιπὼν ἅπαντα ἀναστὰς ἠκολούθησεν αὐτῷ. καὶ ἐποίησε δοχὴν μεγάλην Λευῒς αὐτῷ ἐν τῇ οἰκίᾳ αὐτοῦ, καὶ ἦν ὄχλος τελωνῶν πολὺς καὶ ἄλλων οἳ ἦσαν μετ᾿ αὐτῶν κατακείμενοι. καὶ ἐγόγγυζον οἱ γραμματεῖς αὐτῶν καὶ οἱ Φαρισαῖοι πρὸς τοὺς μαθητὰς αὐτοῦ λέγοντες· διατί μετὰ τῶν τελωνῶν καὶ ἁμαρτωλῶν ἐσθίετε καὶ πίνετε; καὶ ἀποκριθεὶς ὁ Ἰησοῦς εἶπε πρὸς αὐτούς· οὐ χρείαν ἔχουσιν οἱ ὑγιαίνοντες ἰατροῦ, ἀλλ᾿ οἱ κακῶς ἔχοντες· οὐκ ἐλήλυθα καλέσαι δικαίους, ἀλλὰ ἁμαρτωλοὺς εἰς μετάνοιαν.
