Hermanos, el mismo Dios que dijo ‘Del seno de las tinieblas brille la luz’ la ha hecho brillar en nuestras mentes, para iluminarnos con el conocimiento de la gloria de Dios, que brilla en el rostro de Cristo. Pero llevamos este tesoro en recipientes de barro, para que se vea claramente que una fuerza tan extraordinaria es de Dios y no de nosotros. Vivimos siempre apretados, pero no aplastados; apurados, pero no desesperados; perseguidos, pero no abandonados; derribados, pero no rematados. Llevamos siempre en nuestros cuerpos, por todas partes, la muerte de Jesús, a fin de que también la vida de Jesús se manifieste en nuestro cuerpo. Pues, aunque vivimos, nos vemos continuamente expuestos a la muerte por causa de Jesús, a fin de que también la vida de Jesús se manifieste en nuestra carne mortal. De modo que la muerte actúa en nosotros, pero en ustedes la vida. Está escrito: Creí, por eso hablé. Pues bien, conforme a ese espíritu de fe, también nosotros creemos, y por eso hablamos, sabiendo que quien resucitó al Señor Jesús también nos resucitará con Jesús y nos presentará ante él junto con ustedes. Y todo esto ha redundado en su provecho, a fin de que cuantos más reciban la gracia, mayor sea el agradecimiento, para gloria de Dios. [BJ-SAOGM]
Brethren, it is the God who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ. But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, to show that the transcendent power belongs to God and not to us. We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed; always carrying in the body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be manifested in our bodies. For while we live we are always being given up to death for Jesus’ sake, so that the life of Jesus may be manifested in our mortal flesh. So death is at work in us, but life in you. Since we have the same spirit of faith as he had who wrote, “I believed, and so I spoke,” we too believed, and so we speak, knowing that he who raised the Lord Jesus will raise us also with Jesus and bring us with you into his presence. For it is all for your sake, so that as grace extends to more and more people it may increase thanksgiving, to the glory of God. [RSV]

Ἔχομεν δὲ τὸν θησαυρὸν τοῦτον ἐν ὀστρακίνοις σκεύεσιν, ἵνα ἡ ὑπερβολὴ τῆς δυνάμεως ᾖ τοῦ Θεοῦ καὶ μὴ ἐξ ἡμῶν, ἐν παντὶ θλιβόμενοι ἀλλ᾿ οὐ στενοχωρούμενοι, ἀπορούμενοι ἀλλ᾿ οὐκ ἐξαπορούμενοι, διωκόμενοι ἀλλ᾿ οὐκ ἐγκαταλειπόμενοι, καταβαλλόμενοι ἀλλ᾿ οὐκ ἀπολλύμενοι, πάντοτε τὴν νέκρωσιν τοῦ Κυρίου Ἰησοῦ ἐν τῷ σώματι περιφέροντες, ἵνα καὶ ἡ ζωὴ τοῦ Ἰησοῦ ἐν τῷ σώματι ἡμῶν φανερωθῇ. ἀεὶ γὰρ ἡμεῖς οἱ ζῶντες εἰς θάνατον παραδιδόμεθα διὰ Ἰησοῦν, ἵνα καὶ ἡ ζωὴ τοῦ Ἰησοῦ φανερωθῇ ἐν τῇ θνητῇ σαρκὶ ἡμῶν. ὥστε ὁ μὲν θάνατος ἐν ἡμῖν ἐνεργεῖται, ἡ δὲ ζωὴ ἐν ὑμῖν. ἔχοντες δὲ τὸ αὐτὸ πνεῦμα τῆς πίστεως κατὰ τὸ γεγραμμένον, ἐπίστευσα, διὸ ἐλάλησα, καὶ ἡμεῖς πιστεύομεν, διὸ καὶ λαλοῦμεν, εἰδότες ὅτι ὁ ἐγείρας τὸν Κύριον Ἰησοῦν καὶ ἡμᾶς διὰ Ἰησοῦ ἐγερεῖ καὶ παραστήσει σὺν ὑμῖν. τὰ γὰρ πάντα δι᾿ ὑμᾶς, ἵνα ἡ χάρις πλεονάσασα διὰ τῶν πλειόνων τὴν εὐχαριστίαν περισσεύσῃ εἰς τὴν δόξαν τοῦ Θεοῦ.

En aquel tiempo, Jesús se detuvo en un paraje llano. Había allí un gran número de discípulos suyos y una gran muchedumbre llegada de toda Judea, de Jerusalén y de la región costera de Tiro y Sidón, que habían venido para oírle y ser curados de sus dolencias. Y los que eran molestados por espíritus inmundos quedaban curados. Toda la gente procuraba tocarle, porque salía de él una fuerza que sanaba a todos. Él, dirigiendo la mirada a sus discípulos, dijo: «Bienaventurados los pobres, porque suyo es el Reino de Dios. Bienaventurados los que tienen hambre ahora, porque serán saciados. Bienaventurados los que lloran ahora, porque reirán. Bienaventurados serán cuando los hombres los odien, cuando los expulsen, los injurien y proscriban su nombre como malo por causa del Hijo del hombre. Alégrense ese día y salten de gozo, que su recompensa será grande en el cielo.» [BJ-SAOGM]
At that time, Jesus stood on a level place, with a great crowd of his disciples and a great multitude of people from all Judea and Jerusalem and the seacoast of Tyre and Sidon, who came to hear him and to be healed of their diseases; and those who were troubled with unclean spirits were cured. And all the crowd sought to touch him, for power came forth from him and healed them all. And he lifted up his eyes on his disciples, and said: “Blessed are you poor, for yours is the Kingdom of God. Blessed are you that hunger now, for you shall be satisfied. Blessed are you that weep now, for you shall laugh. Blessed are you when men hate you, and when they exclude you and revile you, and cast out your name as evil, on account of the Son of man! Rejoice in that day, and leap for joy, for behold, your reward is great in heaven.” [RSV]

Καὶ αὐτὸς ἐπάρας τοὺς ὀφθαλμοὺς αὐτοῦ εἰς τοὺς μαθητὰς αὐτοῦ ἔλεγε· Mακάριοι οἱ πτωχοί, ὅτι ὑμετέρα ἐστὶν ἡ βασιλεία τοῦ Θεοῦ. μακάριοι οἱ πεινῶντες νῦν, ὅτι χορτασθήσεσθε. μακάριοι οἱ κλαίοντες νῦν, ὅτι γελάσετε. μακάριοί ἐστε ὅταν μισήσωσιν ὑμᾶς οἱ ἄνθρωποι, καὶ ὅταν ἀφορίσωσιν ὑμᾶς καὶ ὀνειδίσωσι καὶ ἐκβάλωσι τὸ ὄνομα ὑμῶν ὡς πονηρὸν ἕνεκα τοῦ υἱοῦ τοῦ ἀνθρώπου. χάρητε ἐν ἐκείνῃ τῇ ἡμέρᾳ καὶ σκιρτήσατε· ἰδοὺ γὰρ ὁ μισθὸς ὑμῶν πολὺς ἐν τῷ οὐρανῷ.
