Hermanos, ya que quieren una prueba de que Cristo habla en mí, piensen que él no es débil con ustedes, sino que pone de manifiesto su poder. Ciertamente, fue crucificado en razón de su debilidad, pero está vivo por la fuerza de Dios. Así también nosotros: somos débiles en él, pero viviremos con él por la fuerza de Dios. Examínense para comprobar si se mantienen firmes en la fe. Pónganse a prueba a ustedes mismos. ¿No reconocen que Jesús Cristo está en ustedes? ¡A no ser que se encuentren ya reprobados! Espero que reconozcan que nosotros no estamos reprobados. Rogamos a Dios que no hagan mal alguno; no para que nosotros aparezcamos aprobados, sino sencillamente para que obren el bien, aun cuando quedáramos nosotros reprobados. Pues nada podemos hacer contra la verdad, sino sólo a favor de la verdad. Ciertamente, nos alegramos cuando somos débiles, y ustedes, en cambio, fuertes; pues lo que pedimos en la oración es precisamente su perfeccionamiento. Por eso les escribo esto estando ausente, para que, una vez presente, no tenga que obrar con severidad conforme al poder que me otorgó el Señor para edificar, no para destruir. Por lo demás, hermanos, vivan con alegría. Busquen la perfección y anímense. Tengan un mismo sentir y vivan en paz, y el Dios del amor y de la paz estará con ustedes. Salúdense mutuamente con el beso santo. Todos los santos los saludan. La gracia del Señor Jesús Cristo, el amor de Dios y la comunión del Espíritu Santo sean con todos ustedes. Amén. [BJ-SAOGM]

Brethren, you desire proof that Christ is speaking in me. He is not weak in dealing with you, but is powerful in you. For he was crucified in weakness, but lives by the power of God. For we are weak in him, but in dealing with you we shall live with him by the power of God. Examine yourselves, to see whether you are holding to your faith. Test yourselves. Do you not realize that Jesus Christ is in you? — unless indeed you fail to meet the test! I hope you will find out that we have not failed. But we pray God that you may not do wrong — not that we may appear to have met the test, but that you may do what is right, though we may seem to have failed. For we cannot do anything against the truth, but only for the truth. For we are glad when we are weak and you are strong. What we pray for is your improvement. I write this while I am away from you, in order that when I come I may not have to be severe in my use of the authority which the Lord has given me for building up and not for tearing down. Finally, brethren, rejoice, be perfect, be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in peace, and the God of love and peace will be with you. Greet one another with a holy kiss. All the saints greet you. The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. Amen. [RSV]

Ἑαυτοὺς πειράζετε εἰ ἐστὲ ἐν τῇ πίστει, ἑαυτοὺς δοκιμάζετε. ἢ οὐκ ἐπιγινώσκετε ἑαυτοὺς ὅτι Ἰησοῦς Χριστὸς ἐν ὑμῖν ἐστιν; εἰ μή τι ἀδόκιμοί ἐστε. ἐλπίζω δὲ ὅτι γνώσεσθε ὅτι ἡμεῖς οὐκ ἐσμὲν ἀδόκιμοι. εὔχομαι δὲ πρὸς τὸν Θεὸν μὴ ποιῆσαι ὑμᾶς κακὸν μηδέν, οὐχ ἵνα ἡμεῖς δόκιμοι φανῶμεν, ἀλλ᾿ ἵνα ὑμεῖς τὸ καλὸν ποιῆτε, ἡμεῖς δὲ ὡς ἀδόκιμοι ὦμεν. οὐ γὰρ δυνάμεθά τι κατὰ τῆς ἀληθείας, ἀλλ᾿ ὑπὲρ τῆς ἀληθείας. χαίρομεν γὰρ ὅταν ἡμεῖς ἀσθενῶμεν, ὑμεῖς δὲ δυνατοὶ ἦτε· τοῦτο δὲ καὶ εὐχόμεθα, τὴν ὑμῶν κατάρτισιν. Διὰ τοῦτο ταῦτα ἀπὼν γράφω, ἵνα παρὼν μὴ ἀποτόμως χρήσωμαι κατὰ τὴν ἐξουσίαν ἣν ἔδωκέ μοι ὁ Κύριος εἰς οἰκοδομὴν καὶ οὐκ εἰς καθαίρεσιν. Λοιπόν, ἀδελφοί, χαίρετε, καταρτίζεσθε, παρακαλεῖσθε, τὸ αὐτὸ φρονεῖτε, εἰρηνεύετε, καὶ ὁ Θεὸς τῆς ἀγάπης καὶ εἰρήνης ἔσται μεθ᾿ ὑμῶν. Ἀσπάσασθε ἀλλήλους ἐν ἁγίῳ φιλήματι. ἀσπάζονται ὑμᾶς οἱ ἅγιοι πάντες. Ἡ χάρις τοῦ Κυρίου Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ καὶ ἡ ἀγάπη τοῦ Θεοῦ καὶ ἡ κοινωνία τοῦ Ἁγίου Πνεύματος μετὰ πάντων ὑμῶν· ἀμήν.

En aquel tiempo, se acercaron a Jesús algunos fariseos y le dijeron: «Los discípulos de Juan ayunan frecuentemente y recitan oraciones, igual que los de los fariseos, pero los tuyos no se privan de comer y beber.» Jesús respondió: «¿Pueden acaso hacer ayunar a los invitados a la boda mientras el novio está con ellos? Días vendrán en que les será arrebatado el novio; entonces ayunarán, cuando lleguen esos días.» Les dijo también una parábola: «Nadie rompe un vestido nuevo para echar un remiendo a uno viejo, porque, si lo hace, desgarraría el nuevo, y al viejo no le iría el remiendo del nuevo. Nadie echa tampoco vino nuevo en pellejos viejos; porque, si lo hace, el vino nuevo reventaría los pellejos, el vino se derramaría y los pellejos se echarían a perder. Hay que echar el vino nuevo en pellejos nuevos. Nadie, después de beber el vino añejo, quiere del nuevo, porque dirá: El añejo es el bueno.» [BJ-SAOGM]

At that time, Pharisees came to Jesus and said to him, “Why do the disciples of John fast often and offer prayers, and so do the disciples of the Pharisees, but yours eat and drink?” And Jesus said to them, “Can you make wedding guests fast while the bridegroom is with them? The days will come, when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast in those days.” He told them a parable also: “No one tears a piece from a new garment and puts it upon an old garment; if he does, he will tear the new, and the piece from the new will not match the old. And no one puts new wine into old wineskins; if he does, the new wine will burst the skins and it will be spilled, and the skins will be destroyed. But new wine must be put into fresh wineskins. And no one after drinking old wine desires new; for he says, ‘The old is better.’” [RSV]

Τῷ καιρῷ ἐκείνῳ, προσελθόντες τῷ Ἰησοῦ Φαρισαῖοι εἶπον αὐτῷ· διατί οἱ μαθηταὶ Ἰωάννου νηστεύουσι πυκνὰ καὶ δεήσεις ποιοῦνται, ὁμοίως καὶ οἱ τῶν Φαρισαίων, οἱ δὲ σοὶ ἐσθίουσι καὶ πίνουσιν; ὁ δὲ εἶπε πρὸς αὐτούς· μὴ δύνασθε τοὺς υἱοὺς τοῦ νυμφῶνος, ἐν ᾧ ὁ νυμφίος μετ᾿ αὐτῶν ἐστι, ποιῆσαι νηστεύειν; ἐλεύσονται δὲ ἡμέραι, καὶ ὅταν ἀπαρθῇ ἀπ᾿ αὐτῶν ὁ νυμφίος, τότε νηστεύσουσιν ἐν ἐκείναις ταῖς ἡμέραις. ἔλεγε δὲ καὶ παραβολὴν πρὸς αὐτοὺς ὅτι οὐδεὶς ἐπίβλημα ἱματίου καινοῦ ἐπιβάλλει ἐπὶ ἱμάτιον παλαιόν· εἰ δὲ μήγε, καὶ τὸ καινὸν σχίσει καὶ τῷ παλαιῷ οὐ συμφωνεῖ τὸ ἐπίβλημα τὸ ἀπὸ τοῦ καινοῦ. καὶ οὐδεὶς βάλλει οἶνον νέον εἰς ἀσκοὺς παλαιούς· εἰ δὲ μήγε, ῥήξει ὁ οἶνος ὁ νέος τοὺς ἀσκούς, καὶ αὐτὸς ἐκχυθήσεται καὶ οἱ ἀσκοὶ ἀπολοῦνται· ἀλλὰ οἶνον νέον εἰς ἀσκοὺς καινοὺς βλητέον, καὶ ἀμφότεροι συντηροῦνται. καὶ οὐδεὶς πιὼν παλαιὸν εὐθέως θέλει νέον· λέγει γάρ· ὁ παλαιὸς χρηστότερός ἐστιν.
