Hermanos, miren quiénes han sido llamados. No hay muchos sabios según la carne ni muchos poderosos ni muchos de la nobleza. Dios ha escogido más bien a los que el mundo tiene por necios para confundir a los sabios; y ha elegido a los débiles del mundo para confundir a los fuertes. Dios ha escogido lo plebeyo y despreciable del mundo; lo que no es, para reducir a la nada lo que es. De ese modo, ningún mortal podrá alardear de nada ante Dios. De él les viene que estén en Cristo Jesús, al cual hizo Dios para nosotros sabiduría de Dios, justicia, santificación y redención, a fin de que, como dice la Escritura: ‘El que se gloríe, gloríese en el Señor’. Brethren, consider your call; not many of you were wise according to worldly standards, not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth; but God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise, God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong, God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are, so that no human being might boast in the presence of God. He is the source of your life in Christ Jesus, whom God made our wisdom, our righteousness and sanctification and redemption; therefore, as it is written, “Let him who boasts, boast in the Lord.” When I came to you, brethren, I did not come proclaiming to you the testimony of God in lofty words or wisdom. Dijo el Señor a los judíos que habían venido a Él: «Yo me voy y ustedes me buscarán, y morirán en su pecado. Adonde yo voy, ustedes no pueden ir.» Los judíos se decían: «¿Es que se va a suicidar, pues dice: ‘Adonde yo voy, ustedes no pueden ir’? Él les decía: «Ustedes son de abajo, yo soy de arriba. Ustedes son de este mundo, yo no soy de este mundo. Ya les he dicho que morirán en sus pecados, porque si no creen que Yo Soy, morirán en sus pecados.» Entonces le decían: «¿Quién eres tú?» Jesús les respondió: «Desde el principio, lo que les estoy diciendo. Mucho podría hablar de ustedes y juzgar, pero el que me ha enviado es veraz, y lo que le he oído a él es lo que hablo al mundo.» No comprendieron que les hablaba del Padre. Eating the tree’s forbidden fruit once * in Paradise brought death to the human race. * But through the Cross, today death has no effect, * because the curse that fell on the entire human race through mother Eve * was undone by the Offspring of the all pure Mother of God, who now is by all the hosts of heaven magnified.
