Hermanos, miren quiénes han sido llamados. No hay muchos sabios según la carne ni muchos poderosos ni muchos de la nobleza. Dios ha escogido más bien a los que el mundo tiene por necios para confundir a los sabios; y ha elegido a los débiles del mundo para confundir a los fuertes. Dios ha escogido lo plebeyo y despreciable del mundo; lo que no es, para reducir a la nada lo que es. De ese modo, ningún mortal podrá alardear de nada ante Dios. De él les viene que estén en Cristo Jesús, al cual hizo Dios para nosotros sabiduría de Dios, justicia, santificación y redención, a fin de que, como dice la Escritura: ‘El que se gloríe, gloríese en el Señor’. Yo mismo, hermanos, cuando fui donde ustedes a anunciarles el misterio de Dios, no confié mi mensaje al prestigio de la palabra o de la sabiduría, pues sólo quería manifestarles mi saber acerca de Jesús Cristo, y además crucificado. Y me presenté ante ustedes débil, tímido y tembloroso, apoyando mi palabra y mi predicación no en persuasivos discursos de sabiduría, sino en la demostración del Espíritu y de su poder, para que su fe no se fundase en la sabiduría humana, sino en el poder de Dios. Brethren, consider your call; not many of you were wise according to worldly standards, not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth; but God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise, God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong, God chose what is low and despised in the world, even things that are not, to bring to nothing things that are, so that no human being might boast in the presence of God. He is the source of your life in Christ Jesus, whom God made our wisdom, our righteousness and sanctification and redemption; therefore, as it is written, “Let him who boasts, boast in the Lord.” When I came to you, brethren, I did not come proclaiming to you the testimony of God in lofty words or wisdom. For I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. And I was with you in weakness and in much fear and trembling; and my speech and my message were not in plausible words of wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, that your faith might not rest in the wisdom of men but in the power of God. Dijo el Señor a los judíos que habían venido a Él: «Yo me voy y ustedes me buscarán, y morirán en su pecado. Adonde yo voy, ustedes no pueden ir.» Los judíos se decían: «¿Es que se va a suicidar, pues dice: ‘Adonde yo voy, ustedes no pueden ir’? Él les decía: «Ustedes son de abajo, yo soy de arriba. Ustedes son de este mundo, yo no soy de este mundo. Ya les he dicho que morirán en sus pecados, porque si no creen que Yo Soy, morirán en sus pecados.» Entonces le decían: «¿Quién eres tú?» Jesús les respondió: «Desde el principio, lo que les estoy diciendo. Mucho podría hablar de ustedes y juzgar, pero el que me ha enviado es veraz, y lo que le he oído a él es lo que hablo al mundo.» No comprendieron que les hablaba del Padre. Les dijo, pues, Jesús: «Cuando hayan levantado al Hijo del hombre, entonces sabrán que Yo Soy, y que no hago nada por mi propia cuenta; sino que, lo que el Padre me ha enseñado, eso es lo que hablo. Y el que me ha enviado está conmigo: no me ha dejado solo, porque yo hago siempre lo que le agrada a él.» Al hablar así, muchos creyeron en él. [BJ-SAOGM] |
The Lord said to the Jews who came to him, “I go away, and you will seek me and die in your sin; where I am going, you cannot come.” Then said the Jews, “Will he kill himself, since he says, ‘Where I am going, you can not come’?” He said to them, “You are from below, I am from above; you are of this world, I am not of this world. I told you that you would die in your sins, for you will die in your sins unless you believe that I am he.” They said to him, “Who are you?” Jesus said to them, “Even what I have told you from the beginning. I have much to say about you and much to judge; but he who sent me is true, and I declare to the world what I have heard from him.” They did not understand that he spoke to them of the Father. So Jesus said, “When you have lifted up the Son of man, then you will know that I am he, and that I do nothing on my own authority but speak thus as my Father taught me. And he who sent me is with me; the Father has not left me alone, for I always do what is pleasing to him.” As he spoke thus, many believed in him. [RSV] |
