Hermanos, la prestación de este servicio no sólo provee a las necesidades de los santos, sino que redunda también en abundantes acciones de gracias a Dios. Al experimentar el valor de este servicio, glorificarán a Dios, viendo que han aceptado el mensaje y que confiesan su fe en el Evangelio de Cristo, y comprobando la generosidad de su comunión con ellos y con todos. Y con su oración por ustedes, manifestarán su afecto hacia ustedes, a causa de la gracia sobreabundante que en ustedes ha derramado Dios. ¡Gracias sean dadas a Dios por su don inefable! Soy yo, Pablo en persona, quien les suplica por la mansedumbre y la bondad de Cristo; yo, tan humilde cara a cara entre ustedes, y tan atrevido con ustedes desde lejos. Pues les ruego que no me obliguen a mostrarme atrevido en presencia suya, pues he pensado actuar con audacia contra algunos que consideran que procedemos según meros criterios humanos. Es verdad que somos seres humanos, pero no combatimos según esos criterios. ¡No!, las armas de nuestro combate no son las que usan los hombres, pues, por la causa de Dios, son capaces de arrasar fortalezas. Deshacemos sofismas y cualquier baluarte levantado contra el conocimiento de Dios, y reducimos a cautiverio todo entendimiento, sometiéndolo a Cristo. Y estamos dispuestos a castigar toda desobediencia cuando su obediencia sea perfecta. ¡Miren las cosas cara a cara! Si alguien cree ser de Cristo, que reconsidere en su interior esto: si él es de Cristo, también lo somos nosotros. [BJ-SAOGM]
Brethren, the rendering of this service not only supplies the wants of the saints but also overflows in many thanksgivings to God. Under the test of this service, you will glorify God by your obedience in acknowledging the gospel of Christ, and by the generosity of your contribution for them and for all others; while they long for you and pray for you, because of the surpassing grace of God in you. Thanks be to God for his inexpressible gift! I, Paul, myself entreat you, by the meekness and gentleness of Christ — I who am humble when face to face with you, but bold to you when I am away! — I beg of you that when I am present I may not have to show boldness with such confidence as I count on showing against some who suspect us of acting in worldly fashion. For though we live in the world we are not carrying on a worldly war, for the weapons of our warfare are not worldly but have divine power to destroy strongholds. We destroy arguments and every proud obstacle to the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ, being ready to punish every disobedience, when your obedience is complete. Look at what is before your eyes. If any one is confident that he is Christ’s, let him remind himself that as he is Christ’s, so are we. [RSV]

Τὰ κατὰ πρόσωπον βλέπετε! εἴ τις πέποιθεν ἑαυτῷ Χριστοῦ εἶναι, τοῦτο λογιζέσθω πάλιν ἀφ᾿ ἑαυτοῦ, ὅτι καθὼς αὐτὸς Χριστοῦ, οὕτω καὶ ἡμεῖς Χριστοῦ.

En aquel tiempo, Jesús, lleno de Espíritu Santo, se volvió del Jordán y fue conducido por el Espíritu al desierto. Allí estuvo durante cuarenta días, y fue tentado por el diablo. Como no comió nada en aquellos días, al cabo de ellos sintió hambre. Entonces el diablo le dijo: «Si eres Hijo de Dios, di a esta piedra que se convierta en pan.» Jesús le respondió: «Está escrito: No sólo de pan vive el hombre.» El diablo lo llevó luego a una altura, le mostró en un instante todos los reinos de la tierra y le dijo: «Te daré todo el poder y la gloria de estos reinos, porque me la han entregado a mí y yo se la doy a quien quiero. Así que, si me adoras, toda será tuya.» Jesús le respondió: «Está escrito: Adorarás al Señor tu Dios y sólo a él darás culto.» Lo llevó después a Jerusalén, lo puso sobre el alero del Templo y le dijo: «Si eres Hijo de Dios, tírate de aquí abajo; porque está escrito: A sus ángeles te encomendará para que te guarden. Y: En sus manos te llevarán para que no tropiece tu pie en piedra alguna.» Jesús le respondió: «Está dicho: No tentarás al Señor tu Dios.» Acabadas las tentaciones, el diablo se alejó de él hasta el tiempo propicio. Jesús volvió a Galilea guiado por la fuerza del Espíritu, y su fama se extendió por toda la región. Iba enseñando en sus sinagogas, alabado por todos. [BJ-SAOGM]
At that time Jesus returned from the Jordan, and was led by the Spirit for forty days in the wilderness, tempted by the devil. And he ate nothing in those days; and when they were ended, he was hungry. The devil said to him, “If you are the Son of God, command the stone to become bread.” And Jesus answered him, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone.’” And the devil took him up, and showed him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time, and said to him, “To you I will give all this authority and their glory; for it has been delivered to me, and I will give it to whom I will. If you, then, will worship me, it shall all be yours.” And Jesus answered him, “It is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and him only shall you serve.’” And he took him to Jerusalem, and set him on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down from here; for it is written, ‘He will give his angels charge of you, to guard you,’ and ‘On their hands they will bear you up, lest you strike your foot against a stone.’” And Jesus answered him, “It is said, ‘You shall not tempt the Lord your God.’” And when the devil had ended every temptation, he departed from him until an opportune time. And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee, and a report concerning him went out through all the surrounding country. And he taught in their synagogues, being glorified by all. [RSV]

Καὶ ἤγαγεν αὐτὸν εἰς Ἱεροσόλυμα, καὶ ἔστησεν αὐτὸν ἐπὶ τὸ πτερύγιον τοῦ ἱεροῦ καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ· εἰ υἱὸς εἶ τοῦ Θεοῦ, βάλε σεαυτὸν ἐντεῦθεν κάτω· γέγραπται γὰρ ὅτι τοῖς ἀγγέλοις αὐτοῦ ἐντελεῖται περὶ σοῦ τοῦ διαφυλάξαι σε, καὶ ὅτι ἐπὶ χειρῶν ἀροῦσί σε, μήποτε προσκόψῃς πρὸς λίθον τὸν πόδα σου. καὶ ἀποκριθεὶς εἶπεν αὐτῷ ὁ Ἰησοῦς ὅτι εἴρηται, οὐκ ἐκπειράσεις Κύριον τὸν Θεόν σου. Καὶ συντελέσας πάντα πειρασμὸν ὁ διάβολος ἀπέστη ἀπ᾿ αὐτοῦ ἄχρι καιροῦ. Καὶ ὑπέστρεψεν ὁ Ἰησοῦς ἐν τῇ δυνάμει τοῦ Πνεύματος εἰς τὴν Γαλιλαίαν· καὶ φήμη ἐξῆλθε καθ᾿ ὅλης τῆς περιχώρου περὶ αὐτοῦ. καὶ αὐτὸς ἐδίδασκεν ἐν ταῖς συναγωγαῖς αὐτῶν δοξαζόμενος ὑπὸ πάντων.
