Only-begotten Son and Logos of God, being immortal, You condescended for our salvation to take flesh from the holy Theotokos and ever-virgin Mary and, without change, became man. Christ, our God, You were crucified and conquered death by death. Being one of the Holy Trinity, glorified with the Father and the Holy Spirit: Save us.

Your Martyr, O Lord, was worthily awarded by You * the crown of incorruption, in that he contested for You our immortal God. * Since he possessed Your power, he defeated the tyrants, * dashing the demons’ powerless displays of defiance. * O Christ God, at his fervent entreaties, save our souls. Hermanos, sabemos que en todas las cosas interviene Dios para bien de los que le aman, de aquellos que han sido llamados según su designio. Pues Dios predestinó a reproducir la imagen de su Hijo a los que conoció de antemano, para que así fuera su Hijo el primogénito entre muchos hermanos. Y a los que predestinó, también los llamó; y a los que llamó, también los hizo justos; y a los que hizo justos, también los glorificó. Ante esto, ¿qué podemos decir? Si Dios está por nosotros, ¿quién estará contra nosotros? Si Él no perdonó ni a su propio Hijo (antes bien lo entregó por todos nosotros), ¿cómo no va a darnos con él gratuitamente todas las cosas? ¿Quién acusará a los elegidos de Dios? Dios es quien justifica. ¿Quién condenará? ¿Acaso Cristo Jesús, que murió; más aún, que resucitó, que está a la diestra de Dios y que intercede por nosotros? ¿Quién nos separará del amor de Cristo? ¿La tribulación?, ¿la angustia?, ¿la persecución?, ¿el hambre?, ¿la desnudez?, ¿los peligros?, ¿la espada? Brethren, we know that in everything God works for good with those who love him, who are called according to his purpose. For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the first-born among many brethren. And those whom he predestined he also called; and those whom he called he also justified; and those whom he justified he also glorified. What then shall we say to this? If God is for us, who is against us? He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, will he not also give us all things with him? Who shall bring any charge against God’s elect? Dijo el Señor a los judíos que vinieron a Él: «¡Ay de ustedes, escribas y fariseos hipócritas, que cierran a los hombres el Reino de los Cielos! Ustedes ciertamente no entran, pero además impiden el paso a los que están entrando. ¡Ay de ustedes, escribas y fariseos hipócritas, que recorren mar y tierra para hacer un prosélito, y, cuando llega a serlo, lo hacen hijo de condenación el doble que ustedes! ¡Ay de ustedes, guías ciegos, que dicen: ‘Si uno jura por el Santuario, eso no es nada; mas si jura por el oro del Santuario, queda obligado!’ ¡Qué necios son y qué ciegos! ¿Qué es más importante, el oro o el Santuario que hace sagrado el oro? Y también: ‘Si uno jura por el altar, eso no es nada; mas si jura por la ofrenda que está sobre él, queda obligado.’ ¡Qué ciegos están! ¿Qué es más importante, la ofrenda o el altar que hace sagrada la ofrenda? Quien jura, pues, por el altar, jura por él y por todo lo que está sobre él. Quien jura por el Santuario, jura por él y por Aquel que lo habita. Y quien jura por el cielo, jura por el trono de Dios y por Aquel que está sentado en él.» [BJ-SAOGM]

The Lord said to the Jews who had come to him, “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for you devour widows’ houses and for a pretense you make long prayers; therefore you will receive the greater condemnation. Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! because you shut the kingdom of heaven against men; for you neither enter yourselves, nor allow those who would enter to go in. Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for you traverse sea and land to make a single proselyte, and when he becomes a proselyte, you make him twice as much a child of hell as yourselves. Woe to you, blind guides, who say, ‘If any one swears by the temple, it is nothing; but if any one swears by the gold of the temple, he is bound by his oath.’ You blind fools! For which is greater, the gold or the temple that has made the gold sacred? And you say, ‘If any one swears by the altar, it is nothing; but if any one swears by the gift that is on the altar, he is bound by his oath.’ You blind men! For which is greater, the gift or the altar that makes the gift sacred? So he who swears by the altar, swears by it and by everything on it; and he who swears by the temple, swears by it and by him who dwells in it; and he who swears by heaven, swears by the throne of God and by him who sits upon it.” [RSV]

Οὐαὶ ὑμῖν, γραμματεῖς καὶ Φαρισαῖοι ὑποκριταί, ὅτι κλείετε τὴν βασιλείαν τῶν οὐρανῶν ἔμπροσθεν τῶν ἀνθρώπων· ὑμεῖς γὰρ οὐκ εἰσέρχεσθε, οὐδὲ τοὺς εἰσερχομένους ἀφίετε εἰσελθεῖν. Οὐαὶ ὑμῖν, γραμματεῖς καὶ Φαρισαῖοι ὑποκριταί, ὅτι περιάγετε τὴν θάλασσαν καὶ τὴν ξηρὰν ποιῆσαι ἕνα προσήλυτον, καὶ ὅταν γένηται, ποιεῖτε αὐτὸν υἱὸν γεέννης διπλότερον ὑμῶν. Οὐαὶ ὑμῖν, ὁδηγοὶ τυφλοί, οἱ λέγοντες· ὃς ἂν ὀμόσῃ ἐν τῷ ναῷ, οὐδέν ἐστιν, ὃς δ᾿ ἂν ὀμόσῃ ἐν τῷ χρυσῷ τοῦ ναοῦ, ὀφείλει. μωροὶ καὶ τυφλοί! τίς γὰρ μείζων ἐστίν, ὁ χρυσὸς ἢ ὁ ναὸς ὁ ἁγιάζων τὸν χρυσόν; καί· ὃς ἂν ὀμόσῃ ἐν τῷ θυσιαστηρίῳ, οὐδέν ἐστιν, ὃς δ᾿ ἂν ὀμόσῃ ἐν τῷ δώρῳ τῷ ἐπάνω αὐτοῦ, ὀφείλει. μωροὶ καὶ τυφλοί! τί γὰρ μεῖζον, τὸ δῶρον ἢ τὸ θυσιαστήριον τὸ ἁγιάζον τὸ δῶρον; ὁ οὖν ὀμόσας ἐν τῷ θυσιαστηρίῳ ὀμνύει ἐν αὐτῷ καὶ ἐν πᾶσι τοῖς ἐπάνω αὐτοῦ· καὶ ὁ ὀμόσας ἐν τῷ ναῷ ὀμνύει ἐν αὐτῷ καὶ ἐν τῷ κατοικήσαντι αὐτόν· καὶ ὁ ὀμόσας ἐν τῷ οὐρανῷ ὀμνύει ἐν τῷ θρόνῳ τοῦ Θεοῦ καὶ ἐν τῷ καθημένῳ ἐπάνω αὐτοῦ.

Digno es, en verdad, aclamarte a ti, Teotocos, la siempre bienaventurada e inmaculada, y Madre de nuestro Dios. A la más honorable que los querubines y más gloriosa, incomparablemente que los serafines; a ti, la que incorruptamente, diste a luz al Verbo de Dios, a la verdaderamente Teotocos, te exaltamos.

It is truly right to bless you, Theotokos, ever blessed, most pure, and Mother of our God. More honorable than the Cherubim, and beyond compare more glorious than the Seraphim, without corruption you gave birth to God the Logos. We magnify you, the true Theotokos.

We have seen the true light; we have received the heavenly Spirit; we have found the true faith, worshiping the undivided Trinity, for the Trinity has saved us.
