Hermanos, la primera alianza tenía sus ritos litúrgicos y su santuario terreno. Se instaló una primera parte de la Tienda, donde se hallaban el candelabro y la mesa con los panes presentados, que se llama Santo. Detrás de la segunda cortina se hallaba la Tienda llamada Santo de los Santos, que contenía el altar de oro para el incienso, el arca de la alianza —completamente cubierta de oro— y, en ella, la urna de oro con el maná, la vara florecida de Aarón y las tablas de la alianza. Encima del arca, los querubines de la gloria cubrían con su sombra el propiciatorio. Mas no es éste el momento de hablar de todo ello en detalle. Instaladas así estas cosas, los sacerdotes entran siempre en la primera parte de la Tienda para desempeñar las funciones del culto. Pero en la segunda parte entra sólo una vez al año el sumo sacerdote, y no sin sangre de animales, que debe ofrecer por sí mismo y por los pecados del pueblo. [BJ-SAOGM]

Brethren, the first tent had regulations for worship and an earthly sanctuary. For a tent was prepared, the first one, in which were the lamp stand and the table and the bread of the Presence; it is called the Holy Place. Behind the second curtain stood a tent called the Holy of Holies, having the golden altar of incense and the ark of the covenant covered on all sides with gold, which contained a golden urn holding the manna, and Aaron’s rod that budded, and the tables of the covenant; above it were the cherubim of glory overshadowing the mercy seat. Of these things we cannot now speak in detail. These preparations having thus been made, the priests go continually into the outer tent, performing their ritual duties; but into the second only the high priest goes, and he but once a year, and not without taking blood which he offers for himself and for the sins committed unintentionally by the people. Τούτων δὲ οὕτω κατεσκευασμένων εἰς μὲν τὴν πρώτην σκηνὴν διὰ παντὸς εἰσίασιν οἱ ἱερεῖς τὰς λατρείας ἐπιτελοῦντες, εἰς δὲ τὴν δευτέραν ἅπαξ τοῦ ἐνιαυτοῦ μόνος ὁ ἀρχιερεύς, οὐ χωρὶς αἵματος, ὃ προσφέρει ὑπὲρ ἑαυτοῦ καὶ τῶν τοῦ λαοῦ ἀγνοημάτων.

En aquel tiempo, Jesús entró en un pueblo, donde una mujer, llamada Marta, lo recibió en su casa. Tenía ésta una hermana llamada María, que, sentada a los pies del Señor, escuchaba su palabra, mientras Marta estaba atareada en muchos quehaceres. Al fin, se paró y dijo: «Señor, ¿no te importa que mi hermana me deje sola en el trabajo? Dile, pues, que me ayude.» Le respondió el Señor: «Marta, Marta, te preocupas y te agitas por muchas cosas; y hay necesidad de pocas, o mejor, de una sola. María ha elegido la mejor parte, que no le será quitada.» Estaba él hablando así, cuando una mujer de entre la gente dijo en voz alta: «¡Dichoso el seno que te llevó y los pechos que te criaron!» Pero él dijo: «Dichosos más bien los que oyen la palabra de Dios y la guardan.» [BJ-SAOGM]

At that time, Jesus entered a village; and a woman called Martha received him into her house. And she had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet and listened to his teaching. But Martha was distracted with much serving; and she went to him and said, “Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve you alone? Tell her then to help me.” But the Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things; one thing is needful. Mary has chosen the good portion, which shall not be taken away from her.” As he said this, a woman in the crowd raised her voice and said to him, “Blessed is the womb that bore you, and the breasts that nursed you!” But he said, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and keep it!” [RSV]

Ἐγένετο δὲ ἐν τῷ λέγειν αὐτὸν ταῦτα ἐπάρασά τις γυνὴ φωνὴν ἐκ τοῦ ὄχλου εἶπεν αὐτῷ· μακαρία ἡ κοιλία ἡ βαστάσασά σε καὶ μαστοὶ οὓς ἐθήλασας. αὐτὸς δὲ εἶπε· μενοῦνγε μακάριοι οἱ ἀκούοντες τὸν λόγον τοῦ Θεοῦ καὶ φυλάσσοντες αὐτόν.

El 31 de agosto conmemoramos la colocación del precioso cinturón de la Santísima Teotocos en la iglesia dedicada a ella en Chalkoprateia, Constantinopla, habiendo sido trasladado de la diócesis de Zela en Capadocia por el emperador Justiniano. También conmemoramos el milagro que ocurrió cuando el precioso cinturón fue colocado sobre la emperatriz Zoe, esposa del emperador León.

On August 31 we remember the installation of the Precious Belt of the Most Holy Theotokos in the church dedicated to her in Chalkoprateia in Constantinople, to where it was transferred from the Diocese of Zela in Cappadocia by the Emperor Justinian. We also remember the miracle that occurred when the Precious Belt was placed on the Empress Zoe, the wife of Emperor Leo.

Τῇ ΛAʹ τοῦ αὐτου μηνὸς ἀνάμνησις τῆς ἐν τῇ ἁγία σορῷ καταθέσεως τῆς τιμίας Ζώνης τῆς ὑπεραγίας Θεοτόκου ἐν τῷ σεβασμίῳ αὐτῆς οἴκῳ, τῷ ὄντι ἐν τοῖς Χαλκοπρατείοις, ἀνακομισθείσης ἀπὸ τῆς Ἐπισκοπῆς Ζήλης ἐπὶ Ἰουστινιανοῦ τοῦ βασιλέως. Ἔτι δὲ καὶ τοῦ γεγονότος θαύματος, διὰ τῆς ἐπιθέσεως τῆς τιμίας Ζώνης εἰς τὴν βασιλίδα Ζωήν, τὴν σύζυγον Λέοντος τοῦ βασιλέως.
