En aquel tiempo, Jesús llamó a sus discípulos y les dijo: «Siento compasión de la gente, porque hace ya tres días que están aquí conmigo y no tienen qué comer. Y no quiero despedirlos en ayunas, no sea que desfallezcan en el camino.» Le dijeron los discípulos: «¿Cómo hacernos en un lugar inhóspito con pan suficiente para saciar a una multitud tan grande?» Les preguntó Jesús: «¿Cuántos panes tienen?» Ellos le respondieron: «Siete, y unos pocos pececillos.» Entonces mandó a la gente recostarse en el suelo. Tomó luego los siete panes y los peces y, dando gracias, los partió y se los fue dando a los discípulos, y los discípulos a la gente. Comieron todos y se saciaron.
