Hermanos, supongamos ahora, que, cuando yo vaya a visitarlos, empiece a hablar en lenguas. ¿Cómo podría serles útil, si mi palabra no fuese acompañada de revelación, ciencia, profecía o enseñanza? Así sucede con los instrumentos musicales inanimados, como la flauta o la cítara. Si no tuvieran sonidos diferenciados, ¿cómo se sabría que está sonando una flauta o una cítara? Y si la trompeta sólo emitiese un sonido confuso, ¿quién se prepararía para la batalla? Pues lo mismo ustedes: si al hablar no pronuncian palabras inteligibles, ¿cómo se entenderá lo que dicen? Es como si hablaran al viento. En el mundo hay una gran variedad de lenguas, y ninguna carece de sentido. Pero si desconozco el sentido de una lengua, seré un extranjero para el que me habla; y el que me habla, un extranjero para mí. Así pues, ya que aspiran a los dones espirituales, procuren abundar en ellos, para que la asamblea vaya creciendo en la fe. Por tanto, si alguien habla en lenguas, que pida el don de interpretarlas. Porque si rezo en lenguas, mi espíritu reza, pero mi mente queda sin fruto. Entonces, ¿qué hacer? Rezaré con el espíritu, pero rezaré también con la mente. Cantaré salmos con el espíritu, pero también los cantaré con la mente. Porque, si sólo alabas con el espíritu, ¿cómo dirá «amén» a tu acción de gracias el que ocupa el lugar del simple fiel, si no sabe lo que dices? Tu acción de gracias podrá ser excelente, pero al otro no le sirve para crecer en la fe. Doy gracias a Dios porque hablo en lenguas más que todos ustedes, pero en la asamblea prefiero decir cinco palabras con sentido, para instruir a los demás, que diez mil en lenguas. [BJ-SAOGM] |
Brethren, if I come to you speaking in tongues, how shall I benefit you unless I bring you some revelation or knowledge or prophecy or teaching? If even lifeless instruments, such as the flute or the harp, do not give distinct notes, how will any one know what is played? And if the bugle gives an indistinct sound, who will get ready for battle? So with yourselves; if you in a tongue utter speech that is not intelligible, how will any one know what is said? For you will be speaking into the air. There are doubtless many different languages in the world, and none is without meaning; but if I do not know the meaning of the language, I shall be a foreigner to the speaker and the speaker a foreigner to me. So with yourselves; since you are eager for manifestations of the Spirit, strive to excel in building up the church. Therefore, he who speaks in a tongue should pray for the power to interpret. For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays but my mind is unfruitful. What am I to do? I will pray with spirit and I will sing with the mind also. Otherwise, if you bless with the spirit, how can any one in the position of an outsider say the “Amen” to your thanksgiving when he does not know what you are saying? For you may give thanks well enough, but the other man is not edified. I thank God that I speak in tongues more than you all; nevertheless, in church I would rather speak five words with my mind, in order to instruct others, than ten thousand words in a tongue. [RSV] |

En aquel tiempo, cuando iba subiendo Jesús a Jerusalén, tomó aparte a los Doce y les dijo por el camino: «Ya ven que subimos a Jerusalén, donde el Hijo del hombre será entregado a los sumos sacerdotes y escribas. Lo condenarán a muerte y lo entregarán a los paganos, para burlarse de él, azotarle y crucificarlo. Y al tercer día resucitará.» Entonces se le acercó la madre de los hijos de Zebedeo con sus hijos, y se postró como para pedirle algo. Él le preguntó: «¿Qué quieres?» Respondió ella: «Manda que estos dos hijos míos se sienten en tu Reino, uno a tu derecha y otro a tu izquierda.» Replicó Jesús: «No saben lo que piden. ¿Pueden beber la copa que yo voy a beber?» Respondieron: «Sí, podemos.» Entonces les dijo: «Desde luego que beberán mi copa. Pero eso de sentarse a mi derecha o a mi izquierda no está en mis manos concederlo. Será para quienes mi Padre lo tenga dispuesto.» Al oír esto los otros diez, se indignaron con los dos hermanos. Mas Jesús los llamó y dijo: «Saben que los jefes de las naciones las dominan como señores absolutos, y los grandes las oprimen con su poder. No ha de ser así entre ustedes, pues el que quiera llegar a ser grande entre ustedes, que sea su servidor, y el que quiera ser el primero entre ustedes, que sea su esclavo; de la misma manera que el Hijo del hombre, que no ha venido a ser servido, sino a servir y a dar su vida como rescate por muchos.» [BJ-SAOGM] |
At that time, as Jesus was going up to Jerusalem, he took the twelve disciples aside, and on the way he said to them, “Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man will be delivered to the chief priests and scribes, and they will condemn him to death, and deliver him to the Gentiles to be mocked and scourged and crucified, and he will be raised on the third day.” Then the mother of the sons of Zebedee came up to him, with her sons, and kneeling before him she asked him for something. And he said to her, “What do you want?” She said to him, “Command that these two sons of mine may sit, one at your right hand and one at your left, in your kingdom.” But Jesus answered, “You do not know what you are asking. Are you able to drink the cup that I am to drink or to be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with?” They said to him, “We are able.” He said to them, “You will drink my cup, and you will be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with, but to sit at my right hand and at my left is not mine to grant, but it is for those for whom it has been prepared by my Father.” And when the ten heard it, they were indignant at the two brothers. But Jesus called them to him and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great men exercise authority over them. It shall not be so among you; but whoever would be great among you must be your servant, and whoever would be first among you must be your slave; even as the Son of man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” [RSV] |
