Hermanos, que todos se sometan a las autoridades establecidas, pues no hay autoridad que no provenga de Dios, y las que existen, por Dios han sido constituidas. De modo que, quien se opone a la autoridad, se resiste al orden divino, y los que se resisten se están buscando ellos el castigo. En efecto, no hay por qué temer a los magistrados cuando se actúa correctamente, sino cuando se comete alguna fechoría. ¿Te gustaría vivir sin miedo a la autoridad? Pues actúa correctamente, y obtendrás de ella elogios. Piensa que es un servidor de Dios para tu bien. Pero, si cometes alguna fechoría, tienes razones para temer, pues no en vano lleva espada. Piensa que es un servidor de Dios para hacer justicia y castigar al que hace algo malo. Por tanto, es preciso someterse, no sólo por temor al castigo, sino también en conciencia. Por eso precisamente pagan los impuestos, porque son funcionarios de Dios, ocupados en ese oficio. Den a cada cual lo que se le debe: a quien impuestos, impuestos; a quien tributo, tributo; a quien respeto, respeto; a quien honor, honor. Con nadie tengan otra deuda que la del mutuo amor. Pues el que ama al prójimo, ha cumplido la ley. En efecto, lo de ‘No adulterarás, no matarás, no robarás, no codiciarás’, y todos los demás preceptos, se resumen en esta fórmula: ‘Amarás a tu prójimo como a ti mismo’. La caridad no hace mal al prójimo. La caridad es, por tanto, la ley en su plenitud. [BJ-SAOGM] |
Brethren, let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. Therefore he who resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment. For rulers are not a terror to good conduct but to bad. Would you have no fear of him who is in authority? Then do what is good, and you will receive his approval, for he is God’s servant for your own good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword in vain; he is the servant of God to execute his wrath on the wrongdoer. Therefore one must be subject, not only to avoid God’s wrath but also for the sake of conscience. For the same reasons you also pay taxes, for the authorities are ministers of God, attending this very thing. Pay all of their dues, taxes to whom taxes are due, revenue to whom revenue is due, respect to whom respect is due, honor to whom honor is due. Owe no one anything, except to love one another, for he who loves his neighbor has fulfilled the law. The commandments, “You shall not commit adultery, You shall not kill, You shall not steal, You shall not covet,” and any other commandment, are summed up in this sentence, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” Love does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfilling of the law. Dijo el Señor: «El que no está conmigo, está contra mí; y el que no recoge conmigo, desparrama. Por eso les digo que a los hombres se les perdonará todo pecado y blasfemia, pero la blasfemia contra el Espíritu no les será perdonada. Y al que diga una palabra contra el Hijo del hombre, se le perdonará; pero al que la diga contra el Espíritu Santo, no se le perdonará ni en este mundo ni en el otro. Pueden suponer que si un árbol es bueno, su fruto será bueno, y que si un árbol es malo, su fruto será malo, pues el árbol se conoce por el fruto. ¡Raza de víboras!, ¿cómo pueden ustedes hablar cosas buenas siendo malos? Porque la boca habla de lo que rebosa el corazón. El hombre bueno saca cosas buenas del buen tesoro, y el hombre malo saca cosas malas del tesoro malo. Les digo que los hombres darán cuenta el día del Juicio de toda palabra ociosa que pronuncien. Porque por tus palabras serás declarado justo y por tus palabras serás condenado.» [BJ-SAOGM] |
The Lord said, “He who is not with me is against me, and he who does not gather with me scatters. Therefore I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven. And whoever says a word against the Son of man will be forgiven; but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come. Either make the tree good, and its fruit good; or make the tree bad, and its fruit bad; for the tree is known by its fruit. You brood of vipers! How can you speak good, when you are evil? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. The good man out of his good treasure brings forth good, and the evil man out of his evil treasure brings forth evil. I tell you, on the day of judgment men will render account for every careless word they utter; for by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.” [RSV] |
