Timoteo, hijo mío, los que ejercen bien el diaconado alcanzan un puesto honroso y grande entereza en la fe de Cristo Jesús. Te escribo estas cosas con la esperanza de ir pronto a ti; pero si tardo, para que sepas cómo hay que portarse en la casa de Dios, que es la Iglesia de Dios vivo, columna y fundamento de la verdad. Y sin duda alguna, grande es el misterio de la piedad: Él ha sido manifestado en la carne, justificado en el Espíritu, aparecido a los ángeles, proclamado a los gentiles, creído en el mundo, levantado a la gloria. El Espíritu dice claramente que en los últimos tiempos algunos apostatarán de la fe entregándose a espíritus engañadores y a doctrinas diabólicas, por la hipocresía de embaucadores que tienen marcada a fuego su propia conciencia; éstos prohíben el matrimonio y el uso de alimentos que Dios creó para que los coman con acción de gracias los creyentes y los que han conocido la verdad. Porque todo lo que Dios ha creado es bueno y no se ha de rechazar nada, si se come con acción de gracias; pues queda santificado por la palabra de Dios y por la oración. [BJ-SAOGM]
Timothy, my son, those who serve well as deacons gain a good standing for themselves and also great confidence in the faith which is in Christ Jesus. I hope to come to you soon, but I am writing these instructions to you so that, if I am delayed, you may know how one ought to behave in the household of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and bulwark of the truth. Great indeed, we confess, is the mystery of our religion: God was manifested in the flesh, vindicated in the Spirit, seen by angels, preached among the nations, believed on in the world, taken up in glory. Now the Spirit expressly says that in later times some will depart from the faith by giving heed to deceitful spirits and doctrines of demons, through the pretensions of liars whose consciences are seared, who forbid marriage and enjoin abstinence from foods which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth. For everything created by God is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving; for then it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer. [RSV]

Ταῦτά σοι γράφω ἐλπίζων ἐλθεῖν πρός σε τάχιον· ἐὰν δὲ βραδύνω, ἵνα εἰδῇς πῶς δεῖ ἐν οἴκῳ Θεοῦ ἀναστρέφεσθαι, ἥτις ἐστὶν ἐκκλησία Θεοῦ ζῶντος, στῦλος καὶ ἑδραίωμα τῆς ἀληθείας. καὶ ὁμολογουμένως μέγα ἐστὶ τὸ τῆς εὐσεβείας μυστήριον· Θεὸς ἐφανερώθη ἐν σαρκί, ἐδικαιώθη ἐν Πνεύματι, ὤφθη ἀγγέλοις, ἐκηρύχθη ἐν ἔθνεσιν, ἐπιστεύθη ἐν κόσμῳ, ἀνελήφθη ἐν δόξῃ. Τὸ δὲ Πνεῦμα ῥητῶς λέγει ὅτι ἐν ὑστέροις καιροῖς ἀποστήσονταί τινες τῆς πίστεως, προσέχοντες πνεύμασι πλάνοις καὶ διδασκαλίαις δαιμονίων, ἐν ὑποκρίσει ψευδολόγων, κεκαυστηριασμένων τὴν ἰδίαν συνείδησιν, κωλυόντων γαμεῖν, ἀπέχεσθαι βρωμάτων, ἃ ὁ Θεὸς ἔκτισεν εἰς μετάληψιν μετὰ εὐχαριστίας τοῖς πιστοῖς καὶ ἐπεγνωκόσι τὴν ἀλήθειαν. ὅτι πᾶν κτίσμα Θεοῦ καλόν, καὶ οὐδὲν ἀπόβλητον μετὰ εὐχαριστίας λαμβανόμενον· ἁγιάζεται γὰρ διὰ λόγου Θεοῦ καὶ ἐντεύξεως.

En aquel tiempo: como se iban cumpliendo los días de su asunción, él se afirmó en su voluntad de ir a Jerusalén. Así que envió mensajeros por delante, que fueron y entraron en un pueblo de samaritanos para prepararle posada. Pero no lo recibieron, porque tenía intención de ir a Jerusalén. Ante la negativa, sus discípulos Santiago y Juan dijeron: «Señor, ¿quieres que mandemos bajar fuego del cielo y los consuma?» Pero Jesús se volvió y les reprendió, diciendo: «No saben de qué espíritu son. El Hijo del hombre no vino a destruir las vidas de los hombres, sino a salvarlas.» Y se fueron a otro pueblo. Y mientras iban por el camino, les dijo a los que lo seguían: «Mi Padre me ha entregado todo, y nadie conoce quién es el Hijo, sino el Padre; ni quién es el Padre, sino el Hijo y aquel a quien el Hijo se lo quiera revelar.» Volviéndose a los discípulos, les dijo aparte: «¡Dichosos los ojos que ven lo que ustedes ven! Porque les digo que muchos profetas y reyes quisieron ver lo que ustedes ven, pero no lo vieron; y oír lo que ustedes oyen, pero no lo oyeron.» Mientras caminaba hacia Jerusalén, iba atravesando ciudades y pueblos enseñando. At that time, when the days drew near for him to be received up, he set his face to go to Jerusalem. And he sent messengers ahead of him, who went and entered a village of the Samaritans, to make ready for him; but the people would not receive him, because his face was set toward Jerusalem. And when his disciples James and John saw it, they said, “Lord, do you want us to bid fire come down from heaven and consume them as Elijah did?” But he turned and rebuked them and he said, “You do not know what manner of spirit you are of; for the Son of man came not to destroy men’s lives but to save them.” And they went on to another village. As they were going along the road, he said to those who were following him, “All things have been delivered to me by my Father; and no one knows who the Son is except the Father, or who the Father is except the Son and any one to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.” Then turning to the disciples he said privately, “Blessed are the eyes which see what you see! For I tell you that many prophets and kings desired to see what you see, and did not see it, and to hear what you hear, and did not hear it.” And he went on his way through towns and villages, teaching, and journeying towards Jerusalem. Τῷ καιρῷ ἐκείνῳ, ἐγένετο ἐν τῷ συμπληροῦσθαι τὰς ἡμέρας τῆς ἀναλήψεως αὐτοῦ καὶ αὐτὸς ἐστήριξε τὸ πρόσωπον αὐτοῦ τοῦ πορεύεσθαι εἰς Ἱερουσαλήμ, καὶ ἀπέστειλεν ἀγγέλους πρὸ προσώπου αὐτοῦ. καὶ πορευθέντες εἰσῆλθον εἰς κώμην Σαμαρειτῶν, ὥστε ἑτοιμάσαι αὐτῷ· καὶ οὐκ ἐδέξαντο αὐτόν, ὅτι τὸ πρόσωπον αὐτοῦ ἦν πορευόμενον εἰς Ἱερουσαλήμ. ἰδόντες δὲ οἱ μαθηταὶ αὐτοῦ Ἰάκωβος καὶ Ἰωάννης εἶπον· Κύριε, θέλεις εἴπωμεν πῦρ καταβῆναι ἀπὸ οὐρανοῦ καὶ ἀναλῶσαι αὐτούς, ὡς καὶ Ἠλίας ἐποίησε; στραφεὶς δὲ ἐπετίμησεν αὐτοῖς καὶ εἶπεν· οὐκ οἴδατε ποίου πνεύματός ἐστε ὑμεῖς· ὁ υἱὸς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου οὐκ ἦλθε ψυχὰς ἀνθρώπων ἀπολέσαι, ἀλλὰ σῶσαι. καὶ ἐπορεύθησαν εἰς ἑτέραν κώμην. Ἐγένετο δὲ πορευομένων αὐτῶν ἐν τῇ ὁδῷ ἔλεγε τοῖς ἀκολουθοῦσιν αὐτῷ· πάντα μοι παρεδόθη ὑπὸ τοῦ πατρός μου· καὶ οὐδεὶς ἐπιγινώσκει τίς ἐστιν ὁ υἱός, εἰ μὴ ὁ πατήρ, καὶ τίς ἐστιν ὁ πατήρ, εἰ μὴ ὁ υἱὸς καὶ ᾧ ἐὰν βούληται ὁ υἱὸς ἀποκαλύψαι. Καὶ στραφεὶς πρὸς τοὺς μαθητὰς κατ᾿ ἰδίαν εἶπε· μακάριοι οἱ ὀφθαλμοὶ οἱ βλέποντες ἃ βλέπετε. λέγω γὰρ ὑμῖν ὅτι πολλοὶ προφῆται καὶ βασιλεῖς ἠθέλησαν ἰδεῖν ἃ ὑμεῖς βλέπετε, καὶ οὐκ εἶδον, καὶ ἀκοῦσαι ἃ ἀκούετε, καὶ οὐκ ἤκουσαν. Καὶ διεπορεύετο κατὰ πόλεις καὶ κώμας διδάσκων καὶ πορείαν ποιούμενος εἰς Ἱερουσαλήμ.
